Rachel McMillan's The Bachelor Girl's Guide to Murder Prize Pack and Facebook Party

Meet best friends and flatmates Merinda and Jem, who launch their own Sherlock Holmes-esque consulting detective business in 1910 Toronto in Rachel McMillan’s The Bachelor Girl’s Guide to Murder. The deaths of young Irish women lead Merinda and Jem deeper into the mire of the city’s underbelly. Merinda could well be Toronto’s premiere consulting detective, and Jem may just find a way to put her bachelor girlhood behind her forever–if they can stay alive long enough to do so.

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

The Bachelor Girl's Guide to Murder is a unique twist on Sherlock Holmes and Watson.  It answers the question, “what if Sherlock Holmes and his trusty sidekick Watson were women during that era?” Merinda and Jemima are best friends and partners in crime fighting. So when two working class girls turn up dead, and the bigger local papers don't cover the case, Merinda and Jemima try to figure out why. They daringly dress like men and go where ladies shouldn't, all while risking getting caught by Mayor Montague's morality squad.

I'm a huge fan of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series, so when I read the description of this novel, I jumped at the chance to review it. I love the concept of a female crime fighting duo. Not only is there suspense, action and intrigue, but there's also humor, and a sweet romance. This is definitely one of my favorite novels this year.
